Hello, everyone!

This week at Open Sesame English School, we are having Valentine’s day lessons with kids! Every year we make chocolates and cards.

We were busy chopping up chocolate last night after work,

so we can make yummy “chocolate bark.”

It’s funny that some of the students seemed unimpressed when we told them what we were going to make. “What? So we are going to just spread some chocolate and put decorations on it? That’s it? Um… Okay…”

BUT when we showed how they could marble the chocolate and make designs with a toothpick, they were very interested. They were even happier to see the cute outcomes after they put toppings of their choice!

While the chocolates were being chilled, we made Valentine’s cards.

We prepared blank construction paper, markers, patterned masking tape, foam shapes, origami paper, and googly eyes. The only instruction they had to follow was to write a message in English, and they could be as creative as they wanted to be. It’s always nice to see how seriously the kids think about who to give it to and choose what they want to write. Some students write to their family and others write to their friends.

We have four more days to go and we are looking forward to it!

今週、オープン・セサミ・イングリッシュ・スクールの子どもコースではバレンタインレッスンを行なっています。毎年、バレンタインレッスンではチョコレートとカード作りをします。

昨日は仕事の後、美味しいチョコレートバークを作るため、チョコレート刻み頑張りました。

何を作るか話した時、「え？チョコレート平らにして、デコレーションするだけ？ふーん…」とガッカリした様子の子もいましたが、爪楊枝を使ってチョコレートにマーブル模様をデザインして見せたら興味津々になっていました。好きなトッピングでデコレーションした出来上がりには大満足！

チョコレートが固まるのを待つ間、次はカード作りです。

今回は、無地の色画用紙、色ペン、マスキングテープ、foam shapes（発泡スチロール素材のシートを色々な形にカットしたもの）、折り紙、googly eyes（クラフト用目玉）を用意しました。ルールは１つ、英語でメッセージを書くこと。その他は好きなように作ってもらいました。子どもたちが、誰に、どんなメッセージを書こうかと真剣に考えている姿はいつ見ても微笑ましいですね。家族に書いた子もいれば、友達に書いた子もいました。

残り４日間のバレンタインレッスンも、とても楽しみにしています。
