I am happy to report that I finally received the Elementary School English Teaching License from J-SHINE!

You are probably wondering what J-SHINE is and why I decided to get this license.

J-SHINE is an NPO organization that certifies English educators to support the dissemination and development of English education in elementary school.

And the reason I decided to study to get the license was that I thought I needed to know more about what is going on in the school system to maximize our studetns’ improvent in English learning, especially now that writing and speaking skills are going to be integrated in university entrance exams in 2020.

In order to get a recommendation to apply for the license, I finished a correspondence course and a 2 days long seminar. I started the course in July last year, went to Tokyo to participate in the seminar, and finally finished the course in May! ( The course was supposed to be finished in 6 months, but I couldn’t do that while I was working full time at the school… So, I paid a little extra and extended my study time  ^^;)

I probably won’t be able to teach at elementary school given that I’m already busy here at Open Sesame English School, but taking the course definitely helped me catch up with current trends in English education in Japan and made me notice the challenges that need to be overcome in the future.

この度晴れて、J-SHINEより小学校英語指導者資格を取得しました！

きっと、「J-SHINEって何？」「なんでそんな免許が必要だったの？」思っている方もいらっしゃるでしょう。

J-SHINEとは、小学校での英語教育の普及・発展を支援するという趣旨のもと、英語教育指導者の資格認定をするNPO法人です。

そしてなぜ私がこの資格を取ろうと思ったかというと、2020年から大学入試にライティングとスピーキング試験も取り入れられるという背景から、教室の生徒さんの英語力向上を高めるためには学校の英語教育現場で何が起こっているか知っておいた方が良いと思ったからです。

免許申請の時に必要な推薦をしてもらうために、児童英語教師養成コースの通信教育と2日間のセミナーを受けました。昨年の7月に通信教育を始め、10月には東京へセミナーを受けに行き、今年5月にやっと修了することができました。（コースの標準学習期間は6ヶ月だったのですが、教室の仕事もあり、少し追加料金を払って延長してしまいました ^^;)

すでに教室の運営で手がいっぱいなので、小学校で教えることはないかと思いますが、養成コースとセミナーを受けたことで現在の日本の英語教育の動向を知り、将来的な課題に気づくことができ、とても良い経験となりました。
