We had 2 craft lessons this summer and they turned out to be a great success, as always!

Day 1: Kaleidoscope (Sunday, August 20th)

We had five children join and make a kaleidoscope.

Two kids had never learned English before, but they did just fine following our instructions in English.

(These are the materials we used.)

This time we ordered kaleidoscope kits.

First, we assembled three mirrors that go into the tube.

Then they decorated the tubes with origami paper.

Finally, they chose things (spangles, gems, tiny stars, shiny confetti, etc.) to put in to see through the end of the tube.

Day 2: Dream Catcher (Sunday, August 27th)

Students were very busy throughout the class time making dream catchers.

We made four charms to hang from the hoop: a felt piece, two pom-poms, and a pinwheel.

You can buy pom-pom makers at the ¥100 store to make pom-poms from scratch. Some kids really struggled with them, but with our help everybody managed to make two pom-poms and they were very happy with them.

After they finished making the charms, we wrapped hoops with colored masking tape and made webs with some yarn.

(Sorry, no pictures of pom-pom making… we were very busy helping!)

And the finished works look amazing!

We will be holding another cooking/craft class before Christmas. Stay tuned!

今年の夏は英語でクラフトのクラスを２回開催し、今回も大成功でした。

１回目：万華鏡（8月20日　日曜日）

万華鏡作りには５名の子ども達が参加してくれました。

２人は英語を習った事がなかったのですが、問題なく英語でのレッスンについてきてくれていました。

（今回使用した材料です）

今回は万華鏡キットを注文しました。

まずは、筒の中に入れる３枚の鏡面を組み立て、折り紙で筒にデコレーションをしました。

最後に、万華鏡に入れるもの（スパンコール、宝石、小さな星、キラキラ紙吹雪など）を選んで完成です。

２回目：ドリームキャッチャー（8月27日 日曜日）

レッスンの始めから終わりまで休む間なく、ドリームキャッチャーを作りました。

まずは輪っかにぶらさげるチャームを４つ（フェルトの飾り、ボンボン２つ、風車のようなもの）を作りました。

ボンボンを一から作れるキットが１００円ショップに売っています。ボンボン作りにはかなり苦労している子もいましたが、私たちも少しお手伝いし、何とか全員無事２つずつ作る事ができ、とても嬉しそうでした。

チャーム作りが終わったら、輪っかをマスキングテープで巻いて、毛糸で巣を作ります。

（お手伝いに忙しかったので、ボンボン作りの写真はありません…）

とっても素敵な作品ができました！

クリスマス前に、またクッキング／クラフトレッスンをする予定ですので、お楽しみに！
